Goudaware Painting
Goudaware is increasingly getting into the picture. There is an entire history behind Gouda pottery, which is named ‘Plateel’ because of its fine paintwork. 1922 was its flourishing period, with the “Rijkskleischool”, a national clay-modelling school, established in Gouda. The pottery was given an extra dimension by way of painting. We can distinguish among numerous styles, all of them painted by true artists. Goudaware painting still is very popular. Gouda for instance has the SBB ceramicis institute with Goudaware painting prominent in its curriculum. We regularly find the art practised on the first floor of De Waag and museum visitors can admire the craftsmen and their art with their own eyes.» return
