The Gouda City Hall
When visiting the Kaasmarkt you will automatically find yourself eye to eye with the most frequently photographed monumental premises in the Netherlands: Gouda’s City Hall; a unique construction boasting late-gothic and Renaissance elements. Its front contains the steps, the canopy and the striking turrets. Many married couples were photographed here. The back of the building is where the scaffold used to be, location of the Gouda’s last public execution, performed in 1860. It now serves as a balcony for the adjacent wedding room and offers a splendid view of the Gouda Cheese and Crafts Market and De Waag. If there are no weddings you can tour the city hall between 10.00 and 12.00 hrs and during afternoons from 14.00 to 16.00 hrs.» return
